It's the Advent Study you've been waiting for
Taking the familiar Christmas story and reading it with fresh eyes to find hope in our Savior this holiday season.
dOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?
You're not alone
If I'm being honest, I knew nothing of Advent until I was well into motherhood.
Once my boys were out of the toddler stage, my understanding of Advent was looking at the genealogy of Jesus and reading about those found in His family tree.
But what if the idea of Advent goes further than just the line of Christ's family tree?
.
Why do we celebrate Advent around Christmas?
Is there more than one Advent?
How should we, as Christians, view the first arrival of Christ and link that with the cross and His second coming?
If you're like I was, and the Christmas story is familiar, but you find yourself being numb to the whole "Advent" idea, then I've got something just for you.
Are you ready to read the Christmas story with fresh eyes?
Hey
there!
I am the girl that has been in church my whole life.
I’ve read the story from Luke 2 on Christmas Eve for as far back as I can remember.
Advent was never even on my radar until I was well into motherhood and our family would be gifted with treats and stories leading up to Christmas day.
Over the past few years I have realized that Christ doesn’t show up on the scene in Matthew. He is present at the beginning.
Not only that, but God promised a Savior to His people all the way back to the Garden of Eden. And all of the Old Testament was them yearning and longing for the promised Savior.
So I decided to write this study about Advent, the arrival of Jesus through that lens. What were the people expecting? Why were they anticipating the promised One?
Through studying the first Advent of Christ, we can look rightly towards the second Advent. Just as Christ was promised to come as a baby, designated for the cross, He also promised us that He would come again!
How is this Advent study different from others out there?
Instead of focusing on Jesus’s genealogy, we will be looking at the “types” of Jesus in the Old Testament.
We will look at the familiar “Old Testament” heroes and see how, even in their failures they point to Christ.
We will start at Genesis, where the Lord promised a Savior and how His people spent generations seeking the Messiah.
After spending time in the Old Testament, we will break down the events that led to the Promised One’s birth.
We will wrap up our study by turning our hearts towards the second Advent and waiting expectantly for Christ’s second return.
